We hope this communication finds you well and filled with anticipation for the exciting journey into kindergarten your child is about to embark upon at West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science. It is our pleasure to share important information regarding our upcoming Kindergarten Assessment and Student Orientation Experience.
During this experience, students new to WMAES will complete a brief kindergarten readiness assessment individually with one of our staff members. The results of this assessment will allow our team to make class placement decisions that best meet the needs of students.
We have scheduled a number of summer dates for this special event, providing flexibility for families to choose the most convenient date to attend. The first sessions will take place on June 13, 14, and 15, and additional sessions will be held on August 8, 9, and 10. On the date of your choosing, your student is invited to attend from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, where they will have the unique opportunity to experience an abbreviated kindergarten day led by our dedicated WMAES early childhood staff.
This orientation experience holds numerous benefits for our incoming kindergarten students. It allows them to become familiar with the classroom environment, providing a sense of comfort and ease as they begin their educational journey. By interacting with our experienced staff and their peers, they will start building relationships that will support their social and emotional growth throughout the school year.
This experience also supports a seamless transition into kindergarten by introducing students to the daily routines and expectations they will encounter. By participating, students will gain a head start in acclimating to the academic structure of kindergarten, promoting confidence and readiness for the exciting challenges ahead.
To ensure a smooth process and effective planning, we kindly request that you complete the form below to select the date your child will be attending. Please register for only one date in either the June or August session. A snack will be provided during all sessions. Students can be dropped off at the elementary main entrance beginning at 8:15 AM on the date you select. Students will be dismissed in front of the elementary entrance at 11:30 AM.
We are excited about the opportunities this kindergarten experience provides for our students and families, and we look forward to welcoming your child to WMAES. Thank you for your continued partnership and support in preparing your child for a successful school year!
Warmest regards,
Nathan VanDuinen
Elementary Principal
