Hello amazing WMAES families! I am in need of help with preparing a few important tools for our upcoming weaving unit. If you are interested in helping prepare looms for 4th and 5th grade, we would be so grateful! I promise, it will be straightforward and easy!
Please e-mail Mrs. Thompson at melissathompson@choiceschools.com and fill out a volunteer form prior to meeting in art room (202). I am available during my planning period (changes weekly) and at 3:30 after school on any or all of the following dates (please coordinate with me on which date you'd like to come ahead of time):
Tuesday, October 29
Wednesday, November 6
Tuesday, November 12
Tuesday, November 19
Thank you so much! We can do great things because of your amazing support!
In September Tk-5th grade students harvested plants from around WMAES to create natural dye and dye wool yarn. We were all so impressed with the vibrant colors that came from the plants that Ms. Holly grew with students: orange Dyer's Coreopsis and blues and teals from indigo. We found many wild grapes and goldenrod, which dyed the yarn purple and yellow. We loved using the dyed yarn during the DeerInWater Native Practices Harvest Family Night when we created corn husk dolls! Mrs. Thompson is looking for volunteers to help prepare looms for 4th and 5th grade students starting next week. Email her at melissathompson@choiceschools.com
We also celebrated Hispanic Heritage month by studying Nicaraguan american artist, Briceño and creating our own collage silhouettes in 3rd-5th grade. Tk-2nd grade students had fun learning about the Aztec, Inca, and Mayan cultures and created their own el sol (the sun)! ¡Feliz Herencia Hispana!
If you have attended one of our family and community events this year, please take a moment to provide feedback on the event(s) you attended using the form links below. Thank you!
