This picture story book by Eric Carle is a useful springboard for students to investigate ways in which they can classify and represent the food that the Caterpillar ate throughout the week. 

Animated film version

This is a picture story book by Kevin Henkes that can be used as a stimulus for a variety of mathematics investigations including data collection and representation. A selection of activities developed by Marilyn Burns for F-2 students can be found here.

This clip is based on the book, 'If the World Were a Village' by David J Smith and Shelagh Armstrong.  It encourages students to consider data representation and population sampling.  NRICH has an activity to use with this resource which can be found here.

When they’re used well, graphs can help us intuitively grasp complex data. But as visual software has enabled more usage of graphs throughout all media, it has also made them easier to use in a careless or dishonest way — and as it turns out, there are plenty of ways graphs can mislead and outright manipulate. Lea Gaslowitz shares some things to look out for.
