Progressions of Learning

Geometry

Effective mathematics teaching relies on knowledge of students’ pre-existing ideas and the implementation of effective strategies to support students to develop more sophisticated mathematical understandings.

The descriptions of learning progressions in this section may assist teachers to develop their understanding of what growth in the Geometry strand looks like, and so provide a basis for establishing students current levels of proficiency and learning goals.

These are some examples of work samples in the Measurement and Geometry content strand that range from below satisfactory to above satisfactory

The diagnostic map outlines the progression of learning for all areas of Space and can be located at the beginning of each First Steps Mathematics book. These books need to be downloaded to access the available resources.
