The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced the Two Examination Policy for Class X, effective from the 2025-2026 academic session1. This policy aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to eliminate the 'high stakes' aspect of Board Exams by allowing students to appear on up to two occasions: one main examination and one for improvement, if desired2.

📅 Key Dates and Schedule (Tentative)

• Main/First Examination: Will be held from February 17, 2026, to March 10, 20263.

• Second Examination: Will be conducted tentatively from May 15, 2026, to June 1, 20264.

• Result of First Examination: Proposed to be declared in the month of April5.

• Result of Second Examination: Proposed to be declared in the month of June6.

📝 Key Rules for Second Examination

The First Main Examination to be held in February/March is mandatory for all Candidates of Class X7. This implies all students must appear for the First Examination to become eligible for the Second examination8.

• The Second Examination is for students whose result status in the First Exam is: Passed Class X, Placed in compartment category.

• Students eligible for improvement can appear for improvement in a maximum of three subjects1010101010.

• Improvement subjects are limited to Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and one Language11111111111111.

• A student can only opt for improvement in any of the 1 language he/she has as a subject12.

• Improvement in the Skill Subject is not allowed13.

• Additional Subjects will not be permitted for the Second Examination14.

• If a student does not appear in 3 or more subjects in the First Examination, they will not be allowed to appear for the Second Examination15. Such students will be placed in the "Essential Repeat" (ER) category16.

• Students placed in the ER category are not eligible for the Second Examination17. They will be eligible to take the examination only next year in the Main Examinations18.

• Subject Change will not be allowed for the Second Board Examination19.

• The syllabus for both the First and Second Examinations will be the full syllabus meant for the year20.

• Internal Assessment will be conducted only once before the main examinations21. There is no provision for improvement in the Internal Assessment22.

• The official Passing document (Marksheet, etc.) will be issued to all students only after the results of Second examination23.

• Provisional admission to Class XI is allowed for students placed under the compartment category, which will be confirmed based on the result of the Second Examination24.

(1) Keep in contact with your subject teacher or coordinator for the practical examination. It may happen on any of the scheduled dates. 1 January 2023 to 15 February 2023*

(2) Do prepare or ready your project files to be presented on the scheduled dates.

(3) Board examination timing is 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

(4) 15 minutes of reading time will be given to the students to read the question paper.

(5) Read the instructions given on the admission card.
