Hi all,
As another busy and successful school year draws to a close, it is worth taking a moment to reflect on the last number of months. For our school community, this year was a particularly challenging one where we tried to navigate and cope after the loss of our wonderful colleague and friend, Emer B, who passed away on 8th July, last year. She is always in our thoughts.
We also reflect on everything that has been achieved by our pupils, staff and wider school community. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, in the garden, on the sports field or beyond, our children have continued to impress us with their enthusiasm, kindness and determination. Among many highlights this year was our badminton team's fantastic achievement in reaching the All-Ireland Finals, a remarkable accomplishment. We were also delighted to welcome Réaltín, our therapy dog, to the school community, joining Leo the lizard and our ever-popular chickens as part of our growing collection of animal friends.
This year also saw important developments in school leadership. I am delighted to congratulate Clare on her appointment as Deputy Principal and wish her every success in her new role. We are also expanding our management team, which will help us continue to develop and improve all aspects of school life in the years ahead. We are also happy to announce that Erin will be taking on the role of Home School Liaison Teacher from September as Matthew will be returning full-time to Tyndall College.
Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Ruairí, whose passing last month was deeply sad news for our community. We extend our sincere sympathies to Emma and the girls at this difficult time.
Finally, I would like to thank all members of our school community for their continued support throughout the year. Recent results from the Department of Education's Primary School Survey showed strong support for our school's multi-denominational ethos, with 88% of respondents indicating a preference for the school's current patronage model. The survey also confirmed overwhelming support for our co-educational status. As always, we remain committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive and child-centred education for every pupil in our care.
I wish all our pupils, families and staff a safe, happy and relaxing summer break. For those of you taking part in the summer programme, we're looking forward to seeing you for a little while longer!

Huge thanks to Emma and the Parents' Association for all the hard work and enthusiasm in organising our annual Family Fun Day. We got very lucky with the weather and a great day was had by all.

Reminder regarding traffic at the school.
We've been in touch with the town council about the speed limits and safety on the Athy Road. A big thanks to Adrienne and Jason on the Board of Management for their help on this. We have been told there are plans for 2027 to make some changes to speed limits.
Please be extremely careful at times of the day where there is queuing outside the school. Unfortunately, there are a number of cars that dangerously overtake the queue. This is especially dangerous when exiting the school.
A massive thank you to Matthew Cocci for designing the new direction signs for traffic on our grounds.
While the vast majority of drivers follow our traffic management system, a small number continue to skip the queue and turn right in the mornings. The purpose of this system is simple: to keep our children safe. Keeping all traffic moving in one direction significantly reduces risk.
Out of interest, we measured how much time is saved by avoiding the basketball court route. On average, it was just 16 seconds — hardly worth the risk.

In advance of us sending out the end of year reports, we just wanted to share some information with you on the standardised tests scores. We used to send STEN scores 1-10. Another way to measure achievement is using Standardised Scores ( 50- 150). This gives us more accurate information on where your child is. We are attaching more information here. You can also convert the Standardised Score to a STEN score using this table, if that makes more sense to you. When we get reports from any other professionals supporting children, they use Standardised Scores. Therefore it is helpful for us to use the same scoring system for our end of year standardised tests.
We tested the children from 1st to 6th in Literacy using the Micra T. We tested the children from 1st-6th in Numeracy using our usual Sigma T test. Finally 2nd and 5th class are tested in what is called the New Non-Reading Intelligence Tests, which aims to get a picture of the child's ability separate to their reading skills.
School Reports will be sent to you via the Aladdin App next Monday. If you have any questions about your child's report, please contact the teacher in the first case via your app and they will be happy to help.
