As we come to the end of the 2020-2021 school year, it's worth reflecting and celebrating all that we have achieved in the year that we've all been through. When schools closed way back in March 2020, I don't think any of us would have thought the country would still be under restrictions over 15 months later and as things developed further, maybe we didn't think we'd be coming out of it as soon as we seem to be doing now. For the final month of the school year, we're going to try and make it as fun as possible for the children. While we still can't do some of the things we'd normally do, we're going to adapt them. With that in mind, you'll find our Active Week will still be going ahead though the events will take place in their pods and bubbles but, unfortunately, we won't be able to have families with us. School trips will be very local affairs with children walking to places within the locaility such as VISUAL, the River Barrow, Oak Park and so on. Sadly, our graduation ceremony will be behind closed doors but we'll do everything we can to make it as special as we can for our 6th class. Despite the restrictions, we've booked in some fun events to keep the children engaged and happy. You can expect to hear your children come home with tales of a circus on bicycles, or a visit of an ice-cream van, or a race to Tokyo! We will also be running a summer programme in the school for the first two weeks of July. Thank you to everyone that filled out the expression of interest. We will be getting you to confirm your place in the coming days. As for September, the word on the street is restrictions in schools are set to continue at least until October. We'll keep you abreast of any changes but we're all looking forward to some sort of normality sooner rather than later.
Keep happy, safe and learning!
Please drive around the school with extreme caution. We have very limited space and a lot of children! As there is a lot of movement around the school at busy times, it's essential to be vigilent when parking and pulling out. We have been made aware of a near miss on the basketball court where a child was nearly hit due to a car reversing without looking behind them.
To help make sure traffic flows as best as possible and avoid congestion on the Athy Road, please do not arrive on the grounds of the school before 2:20pm. We have seen the improvement to traffic flow due to this very simple change and we'd encourage it to continue.
In September, it is likely that we will no longer stagger opening and closing times so buses will be arriving at 2:30pm with the rest of the traffic. We will need to cater for this change but the likelihood is that they will park in the centre of the basketball courts each day. The roadway to there will need to be completely clear so arriving before 2:20pm will not be an option. We will keep you informed of the changes sooner to the time.
The calendar for next year is at the end of this newsletter. You can also access it here for printing.
