December is usually one of the busiest times of the year in schools across Ireland with winter concerts and lots of festive cheer. This year was a much quieter affair but we still managed to make the most of the time we had in school. A big thanks to Rachel and Emma who managed to get prizes and organise the winter raffle. Prizes are announced below. We also produced a special yearbook for 2020, charting how the school went from normality to lockdown and back open again. Due to restrictions we weren't able to get professional photos of whole class groups taken this year so we tryied to find as many photos of as many pupils as we could from our social media pages.
We also had some sad news when we heard that Megan, our 1st class teacher, is emigrating with her husband at the end of the month. While Megan has only been with us a short time, she has been an exceptional addition to our staff and we're all really going to miss her. However, I'm sure you'll join me in wishing her well in her future. We should have confirmation of a new class teacher very shortly for the class.
As always, I want to thank you for all your kind wishes over the last few months, in particular in the run up to the winter break. At our weekly assembly on Friday I asked the children to make sure to let you know that the staff and I are very grateful for your continued support as we travel through these difficult times. We have been lucky that we have had no further cases of COVID19 in our school but we wish our colleagues in other schools our very best wishes as many of them will be isolating this year. All we can do is be hypersensitive to any symptoms and make sure that we protect each other over the coming months ahead until life can return to some sort of normality. Whatever you are celebrating, whether it's Christmas, another festival, or just having some time off, I wish you the very best of times.
Keep happy, safe and learning!
The last day of term is always very busy in terms of traffic. As there will be no Play Together After School club on the last day of term, we will have over 400 children being picked up so we will need to stagger collection times. Our site can fit up to 60 cars at its capacity so it's easy to see how difficult a task this will be.
In light of this, we really need your help to ensure that it runs smoothly. It is vitally important that you only come to school between the allocated times. Children will be released from their classes at their allocated times. If you arrive early, please wait around the sugar factory area until your allocated time. Please make sure to inform whoever is picking up your child(ren) of these arrangements.
Montessori classes will finish at 11:30 for children that usually finish at 12:05. Traffic for these classes must park in the basketball court and children will meet you there.
Bus Children will also finish at 11.30. Buses will park at the front of the school as normal.
Infants & their siblings from older classes can be collected from 12:00 using the normal loop around the basketball courts. Please note there will be heavier traffic than normal at this time.
1st Class upwards finish at 12.15 and can be collected in the normal manner. Of all the cohorts, it is essential that cars in this group do not arrive at the school grounds until 12:15pm to avoid holding up traffic.
Montessori classes that normally finish at 1:15pm will finish at the normal time.
Please do not arrive at the school grounds before your allocated time. For example, if you are collecting a child in 1st class, do not drive into the site until 12:15pm as traffic will need to clear from earlier times. Unfortunately, we have absolutely no space on the site for early arrivals and it will only cause tailbacks on the Athy Road should you come to the site too early.
Congratulations to our winter raffle winners and thank you all for your support during this very strange first full term. The prize winners were Sabhdh Healy, Noah Ferreira, Dylan Madden, Farrah Hosey, Evan Harrington, Gary Murphy, Noah Hing, Edon Nimani, Éanna Kirwan, Riya Callinan, Maksim Radojcic, Noah O'Keeffe, Bella Quinn, Ella Ryan and Jack Wyse. All prizes have gone home with the children.
A big thank you to Gillian, the School Food Company, Madeleine Forrest and all the staff helpers who joined together to give all of our pupils a special breakfast last week. We were thrilled to be able to do it and we hope your children enjoyed the day.
If you are travelling outside of Ireland during the winter break, please make sure to follow the quarantine rules that are in place. Please do not worry about attendance-related issues - just let us know that you are self-isolating and we will mark it in the records for Tusla.
As far as we know, schools will reopen as normal on January 6th 2021. We have decided, given the increase in COVID19 cases, that we need to increase our plans should we go back to a lockdown situation. Earlier in the term we sought your feedback and as a result, we have plans in place. While most of the plans remain the same as they were suring lockdown, we have decided to further support families by buying every pupil from 1st class a special workbook that they can complete independently. If you went to school in Ireland, it might look familiar to you! We will also have extra tangible resources for infants as well as the full rollout of SeeSaw. We will be giving these books out during the first week or two back in school. Please note they are only to be used in the event of a lockdown or if your child has to isolate from school and teachers will set work from the books in these events.
