The Final Countdown!
As we come to the final month of the school year, we are getting ready for a busy end. We have Sports Day and our 6th Class graduation and lots of school tours to look forward to. In this newsletter, we look back on a busy couple of months and we're also looking forward to next year so you'll find our official school calendar for 2017-18 and who will be teaching your child and in which classroom. Reports will be going out on the week of the 19th June so you've those to look forward to too! There's plenty more to read in this month's newsletter and some photo highlights from our web site so until next month, keep happy, safe and learning.
Things you need to know...
Homework and June
A quick heads up that Simon has received some letters asking for no homework in June. He's having a good think about it so you might hear some news before the month is out.
Speech and Language Therapy
We have been informed that parents of children in Co. Laois can avail of a drop in centre. It takes place in Treo Nua Resource Centre, Portloaise, from 930-1130 every 1st Friday of each month. It is a 15 minute consultation for any child not already in the HSE system. Call 057-8696945 for more details. There may be a service for Carlow but we haven't heard about it.
End of Year Reports
End of year reports will be emailed to all families on the week starting 19th June. These reports include results from the standardised tests that took place this month. If you have any questions about any aspect of testing in the school, please contact your teacher or Simon.
Our Breakfast Club is open for all children from 8:30am Monday to Friday. Come and join Yousef for a slice of toast, juice and a chat before starting the day. There's no need to sign up - simply show up in the morning,
Cake Fridays and Knitting Club
Join the Parents’ Group for their weekly Cake Fridays and Knitting Club in the Parent Room after drop off.
The homework club is running well with nearly 20 pupils taking part. To sign up, contact the office and Marita will give you a call.
Attendance and Lateness
We are monitoring attendance carefully this year. Please ensure that your child is in school on time. The school opens at 8:30am for breakfast club and 8:35am for morning supervision. Classes start at 8:50am and all children must be in school by then. There are a number of children coming to school after 9am and classes are well underway by then. Our attendance team will be in touch to talk to families of children where this is proving to be a persistent issue.
Second Level Campaign
Please register your interest if you’d like Carlow to have a second level Educate Together school. https://secure.jotformpro.com/form/52224353965962. The group also has a Facebook Page, which we’d recommend you to join.
We’re always thrilled to have parents and families volunteering in the school. We had over 100 parents in school already this year and we’d love to see more of you.
We have two pupils in our school with nut allergies. It is vital that no nuts ever come into our school. We cannot police every lunchbox so we are relying on you to cooperate with our nut ban.
