As we enter into the second half of Term 1 in Carlow Educate Together, there are a number of very important events coming up. Please make sure to read this newsletter as it contains very important information about Parent Teacher Meetings, voting for your new Board of Management representatives, news about the Parents' Association AGM, and dates for the winter concert in December. Apart from that, there's the usual news about what's been happening in the school and information that might be of interest. I hope you enjoy reading it. Until next time, keep happy, safe and learning!

News

Parent Teacher Meetings

Bookings for Parent Teacher Meetings will open on Tuesday, 5th November at 9am. All meetings are booked on a first come first served basis. Please use the Aladdin App or log into Aladdin.ie to book your meeting with your teacher.

New Board of Management

Every 4 years, all schools begin a new term of Boards of Management. Every board has 2 parent representatives. This year, we have 4 nominations for a female representative and 1 nomination for a male representative. This means that there will be an election for the female representative. Each household will receive 2 voting ballots and these will be given out to the eldest child in each class on the week of 4th November. A ballot box will be left in Siobhán's office and votes can be cast in the box. The closing date for voting is 18th November at 9am. A public count will follow in the Parents' Room at 9am.

Parents' Association AGM and Parent Talk

The Parents' Association will be hosting their AGM in the coming weeks. Information will be sent by email. We will also have a fantastic speaker lined up for the evening. We generally want to ensure we get the best speakers for very topical issues. You may have heard a lot of talk about sex education in primary schools from different sources. You may simply be interested in what primary schools teach about in the RSE curriculum. We are very lucky to be joined by an RSE expert, Sarah Sproule who will be here to tell you all about RSE in primary schools.

I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to make an effort to come along to the the Parents' Association AGM. The Parents' Association is one of the main ways you can get involved in the running of the school. However, even if you don't have an interest in the Parents' Association, the RSE talk will not disappoint. I would urge you to make a special effort to come along if you can. I'll be in touch with a date as soon as possible.

Cooking Club

Last chance to book a place on the cookery course with Cindy. This is a free course open to parents who want to learn some cooking skills with a professional chef. It's funded by the school's DEIS programme and is completely free. Places are being offered to Junior Infant parents initially and then to the rest of the school if places aren't taken up. Talk to Lorraine, our HSCL teacher, for more information.

Winter Concert

The Winter Concerts will take place on 18th and 19th December. The evening show will be on the 18th December and the morning show will be on on the 19th. Tickets will be on sale next month.

Traffic and Parking

Thanks to our little slip road, we're managing to clear our site at 2:30pm in less than 10 minutes everyday. While space is still at a premium, we really need people to follow our car-parking system and listen to staff members who are trying to keep the flow of traffic going. While we understand that it can be frustrating sitting in traffic, we would ask you to be mindful that the staff are doing their very best and it is unacceptable to verbally abuse them. If you have people collecting your children that don't get this newsletter, please advise them of the traffic system as it can be confusing the first time. As always, we would appreciate it if you had any links to the council to ask them to provide us with extra parking spaces as we have been doing for the last 5 years.

Reminder: Closure

The school has been advised of a closure for staff training on 15th Janaury in the new Primary Language Curriculum. There will be no school on this day. There will be one other day later in the year for another school closure for more training. Date has yet to be confirmed but we will let you know as soon as we know.
