Hi all,
After what seemed to be an endless couple of months of rainy weather, it's nice to see a little bit of dry weather in the last couple of days. I hope you're taking the opportunity to get out and about. Some of you might know that every Saturday morning, my family and I do the local Parkrun in Carlow Town. I often see some of our pupils and their families doing their 5km. One of them, Sarah in 2nd Class, took up a challenge to do a Parkrun in all 32 counties in Ireland and she completed that in February. Unfortunately the Carlow Town Parkrun fell victim to the flooding in the town so she completed the 32 counties in Tullow instead but we're super proud of her and for raising so much money for charity. If the weather keeps dry, hopefully we'll have the Carlow Parkrun back this week so I might see you there!
Back to school, things have been super busy as usual. We had a fantastic Friendship Week in February and it was great to see so many families join us for our special food day and for our classroom showcase. Our school was also represented in the National Conversation in Education where three pupils went to Wexford to talk about their thoughts on the education system. We were also delighed to host our first chess tournament in our school where our school competed in a Swiss style contest against Killeshin NS. This week, the team are heading over to SETU for another tournament while our badminton team head to the all-Ireland finals in Dublin!
This March, we will taking part in the St. Patrick's Day parade so we are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible to march the streets of Carlow Town behind our very cool float!
Other than that, keep well, keep happy, safe and learning!
Simon
This last month has been full of different festivals for different faiths and cultures in Ireland. In the last couple of weeks alone, many Muslims have been marking Ramadan, Christians starting Lent, many Asian families celebrating the Lunar New Year, and this week many Hindus will celebrate Holi and Jewish people celebrate Purim. Outside of religious festivities, we have World Book Day, Engineer's Week, International Women's Day and Seachtain na Gaeilge all going on! Our children have been learning about many of these festivals and we have talked about some of them at assemblies. It is a privilege for us to learn with and from each other.
We are currently looking to add a few items to our learning spaces and are reaching out to see if any of our school families might be able to help.
If you have any of the following items in good, clean condition that are no longer being used at home, we would be grateful for your donation:
Exercise balls (child-sized preferred)
Bean bag chairs or beanbags
LEGO/Duplo sets
These materials help create flexible seating options and hands-on learning opportunities for our students. By accepting gently used items, we’re able to save school funds and redirect those funds toward additional classroom resources. It also supports our commitment to sustainability by giving quality items a second life rather than purchasing new ones.
If you are able to donate, please send items in with your child or contact clare@carloweducatetogether.ie to arrange drop-off.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We truly appreciate our wonderful school community!
