Before carrying out the production of the music video, we had to pitch my idea to my classmates. The idea of the pitch was to receive audience feedback in order to develop our idea. During the pitch we played the song whilst providing a powerpoint with visual references and text to demonstrate our idea for the video to help aid the explanation. The director ran the pitch.
The general feedback we received about from Philippa was that she liked the idea of using expressive dance to show the narrative of a relationship and express the emotion behind it. The current idea needs to be simplified a lot though and I strongly suggest you stick to just 1 style of dance (e.g. contemporary) and approx. 3 locations. Keep it simple and focus on performance of dancers, locations that are visually interesting and strong styling, beautiful cinematography (e.g. shoot at a high frame rate - 50 fps to give a dreamy slow-mo look). Furthermore, Leo mentioned that it may be difficult to light the locations and to avoid people walking into shots therefore, we'd have to consider the time we'd be shooting and how we'd generate enough light to light the location without use of electricity. Louis highlighted a key hazard in our idea; fire and water. Of course this is probably the most unrealistic parts of our idea. Since we don't have access to the necessary means required to shoot with quite uncontrollable elements like fire and water I think this is an aspect which needs to be scraped. However due to communication and teamwork errors we were unable to come to an agreement with the director to mask down or remove this factor. As a result of this feedback, changes are likely to occur. Henry and Olli both mentioned the choreography of the dance. I am not sure how this will occur but I know that the director, producer and dancers will work together to plan this. Lastly, T'Rae raised concerns on the punctuality of the cast and dancers considering we've used so many locations. I think it can be agreed that we'd use far less locations (maybe 3), with adjustments to the dances for optimum availability. He also mentioned the access to the studio, and how we'd schedule it all in. The producer would be in charge of finding out this information but considering the BRIT SCHOOL has 2+ studios, The new theatre and the Obie; there is leverage with means of being able to recreate the scene.
As a result of all of this feedback I think it is very important for us to go back over the idea and simplify it down as much as possible. It will also be very beneficial to find a way to communicate with the artist in order to gain her vision and the true meaning for/of the song. Her vision can be incorporated into our simplified version of the song.
My role is a camera operator. unfortunately my team is still unable to come up with a final concept. A lot of tension as silt up between members which caused friction based on the idea. However the music artist is Madeline Kemp nwn and the song is called; i want your number.
