“Flow it, show it, long as God can grow it, my hair” from the Broadway musical Hair is what Badin boys participating in this years No-Shave November fundraiser were thinking. This fundraiser is typically used to raise awareness and money for those who have been diagnosed with cancer and are unable to grow hair themselves.
However Badin decided to take a different approach with this fundraiser. We donated the money to Rose Hengehold, the daughter of a 1998 Badin grad. Hengehold is a six year old girl with a brain tumor. After recently having an operation, the expense of the medical bills has taken a toll on her family. So in order for Badin to help out and do their part we decided to donate the $380 raised during the No-Shave November fundraiser to the Hengehold family. Both boys and girls were able to take part in this event by donating $10. This allowed boys to grow out their facial hair and girls to wear sweatpants under their uniform skirts, which is typically against school policy.
Those who participated, not only felt good about donating to ones in need, they also felt “older” with their growing beards. Senior Jordan Flaig, even received an outstanding compliment “Your beard looks spectacular!” from a relative at his Thanksgiving dinner.
