Kegen Rogers

By Bryan Henson

Kegen Rogers just recently committed to play football for Georgetown University. Nothing can hold him back, not even his pancreas (because it doesn't work). Despite his medical conditions, he is still able to excel in many different areas of his life. One place he really excels is on the football field. This young man puts it all on the line and his hard work has paid off.

His football career started off at a young age just like many other die hard football players. Rogers was always a stud on the field, often being one of the biggest players out there. Rogers came to Badin from Ross so that he could get a good education and be apart of a solid football program. Not only did Rogers join, but his dad came with him to be a linebacker coach.

As a sophomore, Rogers started at outside linebacker. His first year was a good one too, being part of a winning team that made it to the playoffs. Unfortunately, his junior year was plagued with injury. He had a high ankle sprain in the first game against Taft and contracted mono midway through the season. Rogers only got to play a few games and this lit a fire under him for his senior year.

Many of his pregame speeches would incorporate things like, “I had my whole season taken away from me last year,” or, “this is my last chance, so you better be working just as hard as me.” He showed up big to his first game of the season with two forced fumbles and over 100 rushing yards. People might've thought it was just the rivalry that made him play with such intensity, but he kept the same attitude all season.

This young man, along with 12 other seniors, are graduating this year. Rogers is one of the lucky ones who has chosen to keep playing at the college level. Georgetown is very lucky to have a hard working player like Rogers and everyone here wishes him good luck.
