The 2018 school year is drawing to a close, and the senior ensembles last song is drawing to a close. This class has brought many changes to Badin's halls. They truly will be missed.
Many of Badin's senior class have fully bought into what it means to be a Badin Ram. This means that they have all the right characteristics of a young adult who wants to better the people around them. For example, seniors welcomed the freshman on their first day to help them learn how our school works. They also led the freshman retreat making our youngest class feel more included.
When we look at the class of 2018, we see all of the students who have committed to college for sports. All of these students also have a lot of underclassmen trying to emulate the success. Luckily, the seniors are there to lend a helping hand.
Some of the first memories students have of seniors were on the sports fields for practice, “The first day I walked in and all of the dudes were a lot bigger than I was obviously, but when I found my place on the team they all offered me their experience and didn't want to see me fail.”
Badin has done a great job of building good people and this class is no exception.
The class leader Laura Lamermayer said that the classes biggest accomplishment is, “All of the service work we do out in the community. Seniors helped to lead the work on the Father's House as well as earning hundreds of hours and even taking service trips to poor countries.”
They will be remembered in these halls for years to come. It's sad to see them go but good to seem them advance in life.
Students of the month are a group of 4 students selected from each grade level. These students are selected based upon the fact that they
“are making a difference in and out of Badin High School. It might be something special they have done in the previous month, or the fact that they are quality young people who are great representatives of BHS on an ongoing basis,” said Dirk Allen, Director of Admissions and Media Relation.
Faculty and staff meet once a month to make selections. Each month, there are four to six students considered for the position of student of the month for their class. This past month the freshman selection was Paige Long, “an enthusiastic, friendly, outgoing member of the Class of 2021.” Although she was surprised by her selection, she was still honored.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all, so I’m proud of how I can affect people even when I don’t know I am.” Paige Long.
Although the decision is tough to pick just one candidate from each grade level,
“there are so many worthy candidates.” Dirk said.
When decided as the lucky student of the month for your class you also receive some prizes.
“I got a badin pen, my picture taken and $10 into my lunch account” says Long.
Though the gifts may be rewarding enough, the honor of being student of the month is a much more rewarding feeling.
The tradition of the Student of the Months dates all the way back to 2010. Students have been making a difference in and outside of Badin for years and there recognition does not go without notice, and Badin
“certainly expect to continue the Student of the Month honors in the coming years.” Allen States. So keep up the good work, and we might be seeing your picture up next for student of the month.
