The Sweet Life of Zoë Hargis
by Leah Krause
A future nurse in the US army said to me on September 11, 2017, that “dreams and dedication make a powerful combination.”
It has not happened yet, in her future Zoë Hargis would like to become a nurse for the US military.
Though many would want to be a part of the medical program of the military for the many benefits, Hargis only wants to help people.
Her entire life, Hargis has been a hard worker. She keeps good grades at her high school, Badin. While keeping up her grades, she participates in three sports; lacrosse, cross-country and basketball. If you ask her coach, Mr. Dave Ernst, he will tell you that she often causes all of the laughs at practice, and you will hear her being called “socks” if you were to attend a game, showing how close she is to all of her teammates. She enjoys hanging out with her friends in her free time, and in a long interview I had with her, she told me that she was scared of the unknown. Despite her fears, Hargis still plans to follow her dreams, and pursue her happiness.
Hargis’ ability to easily make relationships with people will go a long way in her future. Even though Hargis’ biggest fear will be put into play when she follows the career path she has already planned for herself, she knows exactly what she wants, and is willing to be deployed, or even has to give up many of her personal freedoms.
And there it is, the life of a very courageous and outgoing girl, who helps her community now, and will one day go on to help all of the U.S.
