Ethan Krug is a senior here at Badin that was appointed into the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Krug will be following the footsteps of his cousin and his uncle. His uncle was a captain in the navy and graduated from the Academy.
There was a lot to do to apply for the Naval Academy. He had to fill out a “more in depth” college application, apply for a nomination from Congressman Warren Davidson, take a physical assessment test, a medical exam and an optical exam. Along with these applications and exams, he needed a total of seven letters of recommendation.
When asked how he knew he wanted to go down this path he replied, “I have always really thought about it, but after spending a week at the academy last summer for Summer Seminar I knew it was what I wanted to do.”
While he is in the academy he plans on majoring in chemistry and is thinking of Spanish as a minor. After he has completed his courses, Krug looks to make the military a full time career.
With a look into the future, Krug says, “I'm both excited and nervous for Plebe Summer, which is the summer before freshman year, and for life after the academy.”

Jacob Waggoner is a cross country and indoor/outdoor track athlete who received a National Merit Scholarship. He scored in the top 1% of students on his PSAT his junior year.
Mr. Gretz, Badin’s business and technology teacher, describes Waggoner as a person who, “listens, thinks before speaking, holds informed opinions, follows instructions well, completes assigned tasks, often exceed expectations, works hard and takes a leadership role in class and group situations.”
After writing his essay and submitting his application, Waggoner was excited to see that he had received the Scholarship.
Waggoner will be attending University of Alabama to study Management Information Systems. Management Information System is a computerized information-processing system designed to support the activities of company or organizational management.
Although he is moving on to big things, he will miss his favorite class, AP US History. Waggoner’s motivation for the next few years is to not waste his blessings he has been given and to use them to help others.
