You loop de loop and pull…
by Ashlyn Hillman
Isabel Ely may seem like your average sophomore at Badin, but she is more than just that. She is a fun, outgoing, chicken loving, softball player. You can’t forget that Ely is an only child, but she still has great friends and two close, caring parents by her side when she needs them most. Did you know Ely is even a yodel expert? She has, however, kept her most prominent talent a secret, until now.
Ely’s shoe tying reputation started in first grade. She was in Mrs. Laney’s classroom, just your average first grader. Little did the other students and staff at St. Ann’s Catholic School know, Ely was an excellent shoe tier. Luckily, Mrs. Laney held a shoe tying competition. Finally, Ely had a chance to share her talent with the rest of her classmates. The competition was based on time and appearance of the shoe. Ely decided not to go the easy way through the competition. Ely stated, “I didn’t cheat my way through it with that bunny loop, I did it the old fashion original way. I’m all or nothing.”
Ely won the first grade competition in shoe tying. She learned that even though she went with the long and complicated shoe tying method she could still do it. All it takes is a little confidence and you can do anything. To this day Ely is still a shoe tying expert and uses her talent everyday.
