History at Avanti will help pupils find their place in in an increasingly globalised world. They will have empathy, synthesise and create their own independent thoughts, evaluate and critique sources of information to reach their own judgements and conclusions and allow the past to prepare them for the future.

HOW PARENTS / CARERS CAN HELP
Encourage and continue discussing history studied/any other periods/family history/politics, economics, and social issues in the news with the students.
Encourage and continue to take them (give them the confidence to go independently) to areas of historical significance (for example going on a blue plaque trail - A new English Heritage map allows you to scratch off plaques as you discover them!) and places of learning such as the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Keeping up with news and current affairs. All stories relate to politics, economics and society which make up the three core areas of history lessons.
Students should read articles regularly from broadsheets, The Guardian is free to read online, other papers such as the Times are good too. Why not buy the Sunday paper and enjoy the articles for the week, sharing the most interesting parts of what has been read as a family?
History movie nights! Schindler’s list, Gandhi, Jo Jo Rabbit, 1917…I could go on!
Regularly check their folder and Google Classroom to support the work that we set and complete
