Physical Education

To develop a lifelong appreciation for participation in physical activity in coaching, spectating and physical literacy by showing fortitude, respect, and courage.

OVERVIEW OF COURSE

In Years 7 to 9, we focus on learning and applying a range of skills in different scenarios and sports. This gives a strong foundation in preparation for the GCSE curriculum in Years 10 and 11. Our aim is to embed key skills, including:

Develop Gross and Fine motor skills;

Exploring different coaching and leadership methods to develop application of knowledge;

Develop understanding of physical factors that effect performance;

Identify skills in learning which show good fluency, accuracy and consistency across a range of sports;

Understanding how to express personal viewpoints effectively and with clarity in speaking.

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT


We will use a range of assessments:

Formative and Summative Assessment

Tracking of quality of classwork through observation of performance

Peer-review of performance.

Analysis of performance to normative data

We will also use a range of different styles of feedback to students:

Continuous feedback throughout lessons to ensure performance meets technique.

Acknowledgment marking, where the teach concisely marks the piece of work, using specific success criteria, highlighting positive work and addressing major misconceptions.

Non-written feedback which can take the form of verbal, peer and self assessment.
