OVERVIEW OF COURSE
This is a course which enables students to develop their performing, composing and listening skills. Students study a range of musical styles through four areas of study.
AOS 1: Musical Forms and Devices (including Set work: Badinerie (Bach))
AOS 2: Music for Ensemble
AOS 3: Film Music
AOS 4: Popular Music (including Set work: Africa (Toto)
Students will develop their understanding of music theory and be able to analyse music using a range of technical vocabulary.
PROGRAMME OF STUDY
ASSESSMENT
Component 1: Performing
4 – 6 minutes in duration
30% of GCSE
Minimum of 2 pieces, one which must be an ensemble
Component 2: Composing
3 – 6 minutes in duration
30% of GCSE
Two compositions, one of which is in response to a brief set by the exam board.
Component 3: Appraising
Written Exam – 1 hour 15 minutes
40% of GCSE
Eight questions in total based on the four areas of study.
Two out of the eight questions are based on two set works.
