To develop a lifelong appreciation for participation in physical activity in coaching, spectating and physical literacy by showing fortitude, respect, and courage.
OVERVIEW OF COURSE
GCSE in Physical Education equips students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to develop their own performance in sport. They develop their understanding of socio-cultural influences on participation in sport, and the benefits of physical activity to health, fitness and well-being.
PROGRAMME OF STUDY
METHODS OF ASSESSMENT
Practical:
3 sports performed (1 individual sport, 1 team sport, 1 choice (individual or team)) – 30%
AEP:
Written training program showcasing subject knowledge and application (12 monitored hours to complete)- 10%
Theoretical:
Paper 1 - Physical factors affecting performance (1 Hour) – 30%
Paper 2 - Socio-cultural issues and sports psychology (1 Hour)– 30%
HOW PARENTS / CARERS CAN HELP
Encourage students to develop their fitness through regular exercise.
Assist in developing sporting prowess through perfect practice.
Allow students to attend multiple clubs and be supportive in critiquing practice.
Engaging with staff to ensure learning is progressing.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR
Students will need to be developing their skills in a minimum of 3 sports – through extra-curricular opportunities inside school as well as clubs outside of school.
