TECHNOLOGY AT HOME
LS students in Grades Kinder 3 to 5 should have access to a device to complete homework and research assignments. However, it is very important that parents monitor their children’s computer use at home. We suggest that parents and children sit down to discuss and make agreements about Internet use and safety. If children use or work on the Internet when parents are not with them, it might be helpful to consider applying a filter to your system.
TECHNOLOGY AT SCHOOL
Computers and Internet access are readily available to LS students for academic purposes. ASM has a code of conduct for its students and staff that details appropriate behavior. Because the Internet and related network activities are part of the school's routine and program, the school's code of conduct applies to all network activities. The Internet Acceptable Use Policy is an extension of the school's policies and should be read by all parents and students. In addition, an Acceptable Use Agreement must be signed by all students in Grades K-5. You will find the Acceptable Use Agreement documents linked here: K1-G1, G2-G5.
For the network to operate smoothly, users must adhere to proper conduct and observe strict guidelines. The following guidelines are provided to make students and staff aware of their responsibilities when using the Internet at school:
Internet Etiquette
All students and staff are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of Internet network etiquette. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
Students must be polite in their interactions online.
Only appropriate language may be used. Vulgar or obscene language is strictly prohibited.
Students may never send or display offensive messages or pictures.
Students must respect the rights of others to have computer and Internet access.
Students must respect the privacy of other users.
Students may not use the network in such a way that would disrupt its use by others.
Students must always log off workstations after finishing work.
Students must not deliberately attempt to disrupt computers or the network.
Internet Security and Legality
The School's Administration has access to all system usage, including student email.
Messages relating to, or in support of, illegal activities must be reported to the authorities.
Users must never reveal their personal address or phone number or those of other people.
Violating copyright laws or conducting any other illegal activities is strictly forbidden.
Students may not share usernames or passwords. It is a violation of the ASM Acceptable Computer and Internet Use policy to share usernames or passwords.
All communications and information accessible via the network should be assumed to be private property. Students and staff should not trespass in others' folders, work, or files.
Addendum
Problems with the computers should be reported to the technology staff.
Nothing may be downloaded to the terminals. This includes, but is not limited to: games, software, shareware, freeware, mp3 files, movies, and executables. Use your network folder, a CD-Rom, or a flash drive to save the information you need.
Configurations on a computer must not be changed. This includes, but is not limited to: wallpaper, icons, and other settings.
Users may not change or delete the files of others.
Sanctions
The preceding guidelines are only representative and illustrative; they are not all-inclusive. Misconduct by a user will result in additional action. Disciplinary action will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may range from a loss of access privileges to more serious disciplinary measures.
