There is one full-time and one part-time school nurse on campus each day. The nurses not only provide care for students but are also valuable resources to the entire ASM community. The nurses regularly provide information on, and contact numbers for, various doctors and medical services within the Madrid area. They also share information related to communicable diseases. Annual vision and hearing screenings are provided for students K3-Grade 3.
Should sudden illness or any other medical emergency occur within the school, the nurses will take immediate and appropriate action and will advise parents accordingly. If the student is on a field trip or a nurse cannot be contacted, the student will be taken to the nearest treatment center after attempts have been made to contact parents for other instructions. Parents should provide the school with the names of additional persons to contact in case of an emergency when they themselves cannot be located.
Each student is insured up to the quantity of 9.000 Euros per year. This includes coverage during participation in any school-sponsored activity, on or off campus.
During the month of September, parents will be requested to fill out a form describing their child’s general health. Allergies must be noted, as well as suggested measures in emergency cases. Students are not allowed to keep or independently take medication at school. If a child needs to take medicine for any purpose, that medication should be given to the nurses with instructions for administration preferably by email at mamenelvira@asmadrid.es or directly at 676 55 80 61 Extra medicines and inhalers should be stored in the nurse’s office for emergencies.
Parents must communicate with the school nurses if their child becomes ill with any disease or condition listed below in order that the nurses may advise them about the extent of the restrictions which may have to be placed upon that child or other children in the family. We also need this information in order to notify classmates if the disease is contagious.
