CLASSROOM PLACEMENT

Balancing our classes is a complex process, and the Lower School teachers, counselor, and Director spend a great amount of time and care in arranging class assignments. A wide range of different characteristics is considered when assigning a student to a teacher for the following year. Lower School classes are heterogeneously grouped considering the following items: 

• Academic levels

• Matching student learning styles with teaching styles

• Gender equity

• Balance of Native English, non-native English speakers, and bilingual students

• Students nationalities

• Social and emotional mix of students

• Behavioral issues 

• Student relationships

• Balancing the number of students who may need extra support from the teacher

Because of the many variables that go into the careful consideration of the make-up of each class, there are no parent requests for a specific teacher and we cannot guarantee a particular placement for a child. We do not place children based on “friendship”.
