Dear families,
Happy October! This month is full of important visitors and exciting learning across our community.
We began the week on Sunday by celebrating the incredible diversity of our community at Interfest—what a joyful way to come together. In classrooms, I’ve loved seeing inquiry presentations about the cabybara in Grade 1, morning meetings and closing circles across all grades, and our youngest learners in ECC building community while practicing fine motor skills.
This week, we also welcomed consultant Fiona Hamilton, who worked with our Grade 3–5 students and teachers on “Word Inquiry.” Next Monday, Dr. Derrick Gay will be with us, leading an assembly for Grades 3–5 on the theme of belonging.
From October 14–16, we are honored to host Michael Follett, founder of Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL). Michael will be working with our teachers, and we warmly invite you to join a special parent education session, on Thursday, Oct 16th from 9-10am where Michael will share insights on the importance of play in children’s development and how play supports learning and well-being. During this event, ASM will also be awarded our OPAL Platinum Reaccreditation—a proud recognition of our commitment to providing rich, playful learning opportunities for every child.
In partnership,
Dani Reynaud
School Photos
Our school photos were a great success. Your child should have brought home a QR code you can use to register to view your child's school photos (if you haven't already done so.)
Fall Learning Conferences
Our Fall Learning Conferences will be held virtually on October 30 and 31. Next week we will give you more information about the sign-up process.
Old Smart Phones
We are looking to get some old, but still functional smart phones. If you have one that you would like to donate, please bring them to Daniel Moore in the LS office. Thank you!
What's Coming Up?
Please be sure to check our October Lower School Events Calendar.
LS MAP TESTING
The lower school will take its Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments on October 7-9. The tests are adaptive to students’ answers and provide one of the many data points teachers use to meet the learning needs of our students.
All students test in Math, Reading, and Language Usage. The student-support staff ensures that all students who require accommodations will receive them. The divisional coordinators offer makeup opportunities Oct. 10, 14-16 for students who were absent or did not finish during the allotted times.
Students are requested to bring a book to read quietly after they finish their exams.
For more information, see the NWEA Family Toolkit. Parents will receive an email with the results toward the end of October.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or the K-12 Curriculum Coordinator at JasonDavis@asmadrid.es.
