Welcome to the Lower School
WELCOME FROM THE LOWER SCHOOL DIRECTOR
Dear ASM Families,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Lower School at the American School of Madrid. Our vibrant learning community is a place where children ages 3–11 are encouraged to grow, explore, and find joy each day. Here at ASM, our diverse backgrounds, languages, and perspectives enrich our community and create a true sense of belonging.
Our approach is grounded in best practices from international education and inquiry-based learning. Teachers design experiences that are engaging, challenging, and responsive to each child’s needs. We believe that when children feel safe and valued, they thrive—both academically and socially.
Beyond academics, the Lower School is where students practice empathy, build friendships, and develop confidence. Whether investigating a question, expressing themselves through the arts, or solving a conflict on the playground, children learn essential skills that will serve them for life.
As educators, we have the privilege of guiding children during these foundational years. We also value strong partnerships with families. Together, we can ensure your child’s elementary years at ASM are filled with growth, wonder, and connection.
Welcome to ASM! I look forward to partnering with you!
Warmly,
Dani Reynaud
Interim Lower School Director
My Background
Growing up in a small mountain town, I was surrounded by nature and a strong community that nurtured curiosity and connection. Both my parents were teachers, and education was at the heart of our lives. That early foundation sparked a lifelong calling. Over the past two decades, I’ve dedicated my career to building school communities where children, families, and educators grow together in belonging and shared purpose—and where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to grow. Before joining ASM, I served as Deputy Principal at the International Community School of Addis Ababa and as School Director at Little Star Montessori in Washington State.
Throughout my work in international and independent schools, I have remained committed to an approach that sees each child as capable, curious, and full of potential. I believe in designing environments where inquiry drives learning, where students develop the skills and mindset to adapt to an ever-changing world, and where their diverse identities are honored and celebrated.
At ASM, our goal is to help children build the confidence, empathy, and resilience they need to thrive not just in school but in life. We are preparing globally minded learners who can navigate complexity, work collaboratively, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. It is a privilege to partner with you as we guide your children through these foundational years.
