Dear families,
We’ve had a wonderful week of learning in the Lower School! The cooler, beautiful days have matched the energy and engagement in our classrooms. Pictured to the right, Grade 5 students are making predictions, sketching designs, measuring, testing, and reflecting to see how dimensions affect volume—putting math concepts into action through real-world engineering challenges.
Next week, we’re excited to welcome literacy consultant, Fiona Hamilton, who will work with our Grade 3–5 teachers and students on “Word Inquiry.” This approach to literacy invites students to explore the origins, structure, and meaning of words through investigation and discovery. It not only strengthens reading, spelling, and vocabulary but also nurtures curiosity and critical thinking across all subject areas.

School Photos
Individual and group photos will be on Monday, September 30!
You should have received an email from our Tech Department with instructions for how you can view and purchase the photos. Please reach out to helpdesk@asmadrid.es if you didn't receive this communication.
OPAL Donations
You may have seen our Donation boxes in the hallway. This month OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) continues to make play sustainable with your help. You can leave any LOOSE PARTS you may recognize from this poster and drop them off into the hallway.

What's Coming Up?
Please be sure to check our September Lower School Events Calendar.
LS MAP TESTING
The lower school will take its Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments on October 7-9. The tests are adaptive to students’ answers and provide one of the many data points teachers use to meet the learning needs of our students.
All students test in Math, Reading, and Language Usage. The student-support staff ensures that all students who require accommodations will receive them. The divisional coordinators offer makeup opportunities Oct. 10, 14-16 for students who were absent or did not finish during the allotted times.
Students are requested to bring a book to read quietly after they finish their exams.
For more information, see the NWEA Family Toolkit. Parents will receive an email with the results toward the end of October.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or the K-12 Curriculum Coordinator at JasonDavis@asmadrid.es.
