LEARNING COMMONS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

In alignment with ASM’s mission, the LS Learning Commons serves to give our students access to information and ideas, helping them to become critical thinkers, global citizens and life-long learners. The Learning Common’s collection is developed by the librarian to support ASM’s curricula as well as the intellectual growth, personal development, individual interests and recreational needs of all our students (K1-Gr. 5). To ensure the intellectual freedom of our students, no staff member may restrict or censure student choices within this collection.  Parents and guardians who do not want their children to have access to specific library materials or resources are responsible for advising their children of this.

Students and their parents/guardians are responsible for any resources checked out from the library.  Lending limits are flexible and are dependent on student needs and maturity.  All materials are checked out for one week but can be renewed if needed longer. There are no overdue fines in the Lower School, but parents/students are responsible for paying to replace lost or seriously damaged books.

Overdue notices are sent out regularly to parent email addresses on file and library accounts can be accessed online to verify materials that are currently checked out.  From the online catalog (Destiny Discover), students should use Google Sign In to login to their account.  Note: students must be logged into their ASM Google Chrome account in order for the sign-in to work.  More information about Google Sign In can be obtained from homeroom teachers or ASM’s tech support team.

Parents are welcome to get their own library account and may check out up to 20 items/week.  Please contact asmlibrary@asmadrid.es to request an account.

Parents may come before or after school (see hours below) with their children, but they must remain with their children at all times.
