The concept of love and human connection is something I have always been interested in. For this project, I have made miniatures based on 18th
and 19th century lovers’ eyes, which were traditionally painted on tiny pieces of ivory jewelry. Rather than being intended for the hands and necks
of lovers, these eyes belong to my closest of friends and each piece is a token that will reside on surfaces in my home. Instead of being painted on pieces of jewelry, these eyes are painted on 2” x 2’’ blocks of wood with gilded edges. The purpose of these is to be touched and held, as opposed to just observed.
