Let Them Know You’re Not Letting Go is an exploration of touch, memory, and the labor of love. This work utilizes three different printmaking processes to show representations of my loved ones through my perspective. The first layer is a photographic screen print of my outstretched hands to signify my connection to the people depicted in each piece. Next, depicted is —from an outsider's perspective— a moment that I have shared with that person that holds sentimental significance to me, though it may not be directly evident as to why, printed in a screen-filler screen print process. Finally, hands are seen as the universal symbol of touch, and are used to give viewers an immediate connection to the work before unpacking the imagery. My loved ones’ hands are depicted in a linocut print holding something that is representative of themselves or of our relationship. Each print is titled after a song lyric that represents my relationship with the person depicted. Let Them Know You’re Not Letting Go illustrates my relationship to the world, and the significance of the connections I make. This body of work conveys how I feel about my loved ones, and the significance of my relationship to the subjects of the work.
