My thesis explores how gender, cultural perceptions, and historical context impact the use of fiber arts in art therapy settings. The visual component
of this thesis —a hand-sewn story cloth— was adapted from the Common Threads art therapy model. The model is geared towards victims of gender based violence, and seeks to create a mode of therapeutic communication through sewing a narrative onto the cloth. My story cloth synthesised my research findings and allowed me to empathize with patient experience in therapeutic environments while also helping me explore the narrative of
my educational experience through a lens of gender.
