Anthony Lebeau

The best form of entertainment is a story. Stories —such as those in children’s books or comics— rely heavily on images. It is these images that my art is based upon. Through my art, I like to tell stories. I like to express my art in the form of comics, children’s books, detailed single images, and videogame-based art. My work often surrounds such themes as science-fiction, fantasy, landscape, character design. My art has been described as funny, whimsical, playful, and detailed.

My art features a lot of linework, a strong use of vibrant colors, and a cartoonish or semi-cartoonish visual style. I prefer to work in pencil, colored pencil, and pen. However, lately, I have found myself using digital methods more often.

To me, drawing is an enjoyable and very natural process. My intention is to create art that entertains, (after all - who doesn’t like a story?) something funny, or something that is simply visually appealing. I wish for the audience viewing my work to laugh, understand the narrative, and feel the tone of the story that is being told. Overall, I want those that view my art to have as much fun as I did when I drew it.

The goal of my thesis is to show that scientific concepts can be explained to young children through stories and illustrations they are familiar with. As an example, I will be compiling a retelling of the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to introduce young children to the concept of scientific measurements such as weight, time, temperature, height, and firmness.
