The light of the sun has a persevering steadiness, for as it fades, it already prepares to shine again. It creeps into windows and between cracks of blinds, relentless yet momentary, with an infinite range of color, tone, and effect. This series consists of a variable edition of abstract relief and monotype prints, inspired by light and its translation through color, shape, and movement. The works combine what I love most about both printmaking and painting, exploring the materiality allowed by both disciplines and utilizing the repetition that is intrinsic to printmaking. The full edition of prints imagines a gradient, but it is open ended, asking the viewer to consider if it would graduate back into pale yellows in a cycle, or if it might continue in a linear way, perhaps diving into shadows or into the soft blues and pinks of dawn or dusk. I hope that my works can be a place to start, rather than being contained inside a beginning and an end, for myself and for anyone who views them.
