Luis Alfonso Lacayo
Welcome back, fellow eagles, to the place where you can find out about events happening in the football world! If you're into football, you’re in the right place! Allow me to introduce myself again: My name is Luis Alfonso Lacayo, and you are reading AST's very own Football Feed. Today we're talking about Barcelona’s recent lackluster performances, Real Madrid’s bad performance in the Champions League, and Manchester City’s current downfall.
In the last edition of Football Feed, we talked about Barcelona’s dominance and how they were by-far the best team in Europe. Well, what if I told you that if things keep going as they are, they won’t even be the best in Spain?! It sounds too good to be true for Real Madrid fans, but as of the time of writing this, Barcelona have not won a single La Liga game since November 3. Barcelona now have three losses in La Liga this season, which is more than Real Madrid who has only one. What is most worrying for Barca fans is that Real Madrid is only one win away from passing Barcelona in the La Liga title race and Real Madrid have played one less game than FC Barcelona. Barcelona has 34 points in 15 games while Real Madrid has 33 points in 14 games.
Although Barcelona are struggling in La Liga, it doesn’t mean that Real Madrid are doing better. For the past few months, being a Real Madrid fan has been hard for many, and although they are making a return in La Liga, Real Madrid are in danger of not making it to the Champions League playoffs! Currently, the Spanish giants sit in 24th place in the Champions League, which is on the border line for the playoffs. It wasn’t until Real Madrid faced Liverpool in the Champions League that we all saw how little Mbappe contributed to the team. He missed a penalty and got the lowest match rating I have ever seen in my entire life! Mbappe got a match rating of 2.3, not only was he the player with the worst rating, but Endrick who only played eleven minutes in the game got a higher rating than him (Endrick got a 2.9).
For the past few seasons Manchester City have been known as one of the best teams in the Premier League and in the Champions League. Every team was afraid of facing them, but this year it has all changed. As of right now Manchester City are not even in a Champions League qualifying position! They are in fifth place in the Premier League, and if you thought Barcelona have not won in a while, then you don’t want to know how long it has been since City have won. The last time Manchester City won a game was on October 26, which means that they have lost six and tied one of their last seven matches. In the Champions League, it has not been any better for them, they are currently sitting in 17th place and are only two points above Real Madrid.
In conclusion, not many positive things have happened in the football world for the top teams. Let’s hope that Real Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona come back from these setbacks and improve their performances. Thank you for reading and see you next time in the Football Feed!
