Fiesta Catracha
Alana Barahona
Fiesta Catracha is a highly anticipated event that happens at various schools in Honduras in order to celebrate our country's independence and culture. Here, at AST, students and staff make sure to make this event one to remember year after year.
During la Fiesta Catracha, students from grades 6-12 get to enjoy an assembly, which includes the infamous bombas, performed by la Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica and other high school students; traditional dances; beautiful poems written by AST students about our country; and more. Students also have the opportunity to pay respect to our country by proudly singing the national anthem and saying the pledge of allegiance.
This year, students also got to play a fun trivia game about Honduras. The winners determined which grades would be able to get up and get their food first. La Fiesta Catracha always ends with a smorgasbord of delicious typical foods. Each grade has a stand with a snack, treat, or small meal, and students use "Stanley bucks" to purchase what looks best to them! This year's event included options like baleadas, pupusas, elote loco, paletas, and more.
