AI is Killing Gaming by Jacobo Handal
So, video games: You either love them or hate them. Gaming can be… an expensive hobby, especially in the modern age. And I am here to tell you that it is getting worse. Now, you’ve all probably heard about $80 Mario Kart and $600 consoles, but I'm going to be talking about something else, something way worse, something that could ruin gaming.
AI, believe it or not, requires a lot of power and resources to work properly. This means some very, very good computers are necessary. Some companies, specifically RAM manufacturers, have been selling ALL of their RAM to, you guessed it, AI. This is either bad news or the worse news.
If you happen to be in the PC market of gaming, then you should expect a BIG price jump on RAM and buying pre-built PCs. Since all the RAM has been sold, it has become rarer and more expensive. For example, A 64GB DDR5 kit that cost $190–$209 in mid-2025 has surged to over $650–$800. That's a pretty big number; now a Switch 2 doesn’t seem so expensive.
If you happen to be in the console market, which I know most of you are, things aren’t looking good either. Believe it or not, a console is very similar to a PC. One of the similarities is that it requires RAM. You probably heard about the PS6 and New Xbox delay, they were supposed to release this year, but it got moved to 2027-2028. This is because they don’t have RAM. Yes, this means we are stuck, with the PS5 for the next 2 years.
In conclusion…… were cooked 💀
