New Percy Jackson Series on Disney+ is a Hit!

In December 2023, a new Percy Jackson series came to Disney+. Since December 20, one new episode has been released each Tuesday. 

The first set of episodes is based on the first book of the series, The Lightning Thief, which follows the adventures of Percy, Grover, and Annabeth, who go on a quest to find Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt. Filled with action early on and character development along the way, The Lightning Thief is one of my favorites books, and these new episodes have left everyone excited, including me. I love waiting every week to watch Percy Jackson and hoping that the books play a big role in the series. Personally, I can say I have loved the series so far. Everything from the characters to the accuracy to the book’s plot have made it amazing and entertaining. 

This has made a lot of the Percy Jackson fans happy since the release of the movie adaptations in 2010, which were not loved by all the fans. Even Rick Riordan himself, the author of the books, publicly criticized these films. 

This new series, however, is loved by a lot of people. At the moment of writing this article, the series has a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a review on Entertainment Weekly says, “Rick Riordan’s beloved books get the lavish TV adaptation they deserve, a smart series that lets its preteen protagonist actually be a preteen…” The series has had a great start, and I think its creators have done a good job bringing Percy Jackson to the screen. Being enjoyed by millions of people across the world, it has left an impact. 

In this adaptation, Walker Scoblell plays the lead role of Percy Jackson, along with Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. As a big fan of Broadway musicals, I can tell you that my personal favorite of the cast is Lin Manuel Miranda playing Hermes.

To conclude, this series has left lots of Percy Jackson fans excited and gotten more people to know about it and enjoy it. It has done a good job staying accurate to the books and is very well written and adapted. I wish to see more of the series in the future and hope all of you get to enjoy it as well.
