Trunk-or-Treat 2023: Fun, Games, and Sweets
Trunk-or-Treating has been a staple Halloween tradition for years. It all began back in 1994 as an alternative to traditional trick-or-treating, because it was a safer option. Trunk-or-treating is also called “Halloween tailgating” since everyone gathers around the trunks of parked cars, filled with candy and Halloween fun. (Archie)
AST first hosted a Trunk-or-Treat fundraiser in 2017. It was a new idea sponsored by STUCO, and it only lasted two hours. The kids loved it so much, it was back by popular demand the following year. As the activity became more popular, the decorations and fun activities grew and grew. Unfortunately, the 2020 Trunk-or-Treat had to be canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but in spite of a difficult year, the fundraiser was back at AST in 2022, and as an active member of STUCO, I was able to participate on the committee. I loved being able to set up our class' trunk with my friends, and we had a blast with teachers and students. We wore Halloween masks as well as those medical masks we all remember to avoid spreading COVID, and we managed to have a good time even with the precautions! I still reminisce about our hard work and how we managed to plan and get everything ready.
This year's Trunk-or-Treat event lasted about five hours. Students worked together to create some amazing displays and facilitate fun games. The ninth grade (my class) decided to celebrate Ghostbusters and Stranger Things in their displays. There was also a miniature basketball game; kids had fun shooting hoops and earning candy.
Every grade's trunk helped raise funds for their grades.
Needles to say, this is one of the best fundraisers happening at AST. Halloween is fun enough, but what can make it even more fun….? HAVING A BLAST AT OUR ANNUAL TRUNK-OR-TREAT!
