Mitski the Singer with the Words of Gold
Jimena Ham
September 27, 1990 was the day songwriter and indie rock singer Mitski was born. Mitski Miyawaki is the daughter of an American father and a Japanese mother. In her first years of life, she lived in Japan, her birthplace, but later on, her childhood was spent moving around to different countries. She ended up living in 13 different countries before she went to college and stayed in New York City to pursue film. Though after careful consideration, she decided to study music. Her decision was influenced by her growing passion for music. Just out of high school, Mitski started to compose her own songs, after learning how to play the guitar. From her earlier song, only a few were completed. One of these songs is called Bag of Bones which can be found in her first album.
Mitski has created seven albums, and each and every one was made with passion and love. However, I can’t say that every song is happy. Her songs are filled with emotional lyrics with concealed symbolism behind them. She uses the guitar, bass, piano, and many more to add feelings to her words. Sending a powerful message to her listeners. Most of her songs are based on Mitski's own experiences with love, puberty, self-esteem, friendships, and many more. Her music aims to target teenage girls who can relate to them.
Her songs are a masterpiece itself. Every song of hers, can make you dance, sing and cry. They are so relatable that they almost seem to make your heart stop, break, and rebuild itself in the same minute. Her words are just like gold. Shiny and valuable but heavy and unbreakable to our hearts. That's the reason I created a poster of Mitski. She is my inspiration and the reason I have started to like music more.
