WHAT WE'RE LEARNING IN CLASS

Math: We just finished our multiplication unit! We are now moving into long division. By the end of the unit, students will be able to divide 4 digits by 2 digits. Quotients (answers to division problems) may include remainders. Computation questions they will answer will look similar to this:

  • 37,520 ÷ 76
  • 926 ÷ 32

Literacy (Reading & Comprehension): For the next several weeks, we will be working on Main Idea. This upcoming week we will find the main idea by determining the topic of a short passage of text. They will then gather information using the 5 W's (Who, What, When, Where, and Why) to find essential information. They will then determine what's essential and use that to create a 10 words or less sentence stating the main idea.

Writing: This week we are starting our second opinion paper. This past week we finished up our first paper on digital games vs. board games, and also a class paper we did altogether. We will now be focusing heavily on what goes into body paragraphs. A body paragraph should include:

  • Transition and topic sentence
  • Text evidence copied from the text using quotation marks, as well as crediting the author/text
  • Explanation of evidence
  • Real life example

Social Studies: This week we have been working on an Explorer project. Each student has chosen an explorer to study/research and they have been making power points using Google Slides or a poster. They are gathering information on their voyages, motivation for exploring, discoveries, impact on Natives, and interesting facts. After this unit we will be moving into our unit about the Colonies.

CLASS NEEDS

Many of you have asked if you can donate anything to our class. While it's not required, it means the world to me! If you would like to make a donation of your choice to my current Donor's Choose project, please click HERE. I am wanting to get a variety of classroom supplies that are always needed in the classroom.
