CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS

I will be personally delivering your child's school supplies! I am hoping to say goodbye to them (following social distancing of course), as well as give them a little goodbye gift. ***So please note that your child that is in my class will NOT have their supplies at the school supply pickup.
Mandatory Monday Morning Meeting this Monday, May 11th!
- Monday at 11 AM, I will be holding a morning meeting with my class via Zoom.
  - Please make sure you download Zoom, you can do that HERE. Students can also do it when they click on the link to join their first meeting. Students will need to put in a meeting ID and password that I put on Google Classroom every week by clicking the link on Google Classroom.
  - I will use this time to go over the week's assignments, answer questions, and say hi to the kids! The remaining time, I will leave for the kids to chat and catch up with each other.
  - Students need to be on time.
Please have students check their school email daily.
On Google Classroom, all assignments for the week will be under Week 7 - May 4th - 8th. There will be a weekly checklist to help you and your students to keep track of assignments for each day.

WHAT WE'RE LEARNING THIS WEEK

Normally during this time of year we are doing fun projects, so we mimicking that distance learning style. We definitely made adjustments to make it easier on all of you, but the hope is that now the students can apply their knowledge in a deeper and more meaningful way.

Wax Museum: This week we have been working on our Wax Museum! Students will be creating a multi-slide biography about a famous person. Their project will be graded for social studies, as well as writing, and should reflect students' ability and understanding in both subjects.

Wax Museum Due Dates:

Due May 8th: Research and Notes
Due May 15th: Google Slides Research Report – Several slides introducing their famous person and telling about their life.
Due May 14th: Speech - Short 3 – 4 sentences which explains who they are and why they are important – Needs to be memorized.
Due May 14th: Costume to dress up as their person for their speech. (Optional Not Required)

Math: This week we are learning about finding the volume of prisms by multiplying base x width x height. They will be doing 4 "centers": A Nearpod lesson, two Google Slides activities, and 30 minutes of Prodigy. It's crucial the Nearpod lesson is done first because it will teach the students how to find volume.

City of Ember Project: We just finished The City of Ember read aloud. It was such a fun experience and I loved hearing how much the kids loved it. To finish it off, the students will be doing a "City Planning Project." They will have two weeks to complete it (it's due Friday, May 15th). They will be planning a post-apocalyptic city of sorts, creating a map using Google Draw, and writing a proposal. This project covers literacy, social studies, and writing.

Art Challenge - May 1st - 15th participate in as many art challenges as you like to compete for some fun prizes. Send pictures of your art to cassidyjohnson@alpinedistrict.org This flier shows the challenges May Art Challenge.
Virtual Pet Parade - May 8th from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM. See pictures of you and your friends with their pets/stuffed animals on our web link which will be sent out Friday morning (like our art gallery). Pictures of you and your pet or stuffed animal will be accepted at tproctor@alpinedistrict.org until Thursday, May 7th at 3:00 PM. Please do not include your name on the picture.
Drive Through Library Book Return- May 11-14th from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Mrs. Chavez (kchavez@alpinedistrict.org) can email you if you don’t remember which books you have . She will be out at the drop off area to collect your books.
Virtual Positive Message Parade and a Sixth Grade Slideshow- Friday, May 15th from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM. Everyone will be able to see pictures of you and your friends sharing a positive message on a web link (like our art gallery). We will send that link out Friday morning. Send pictures without any names to tproctor@alpinedistrict.org by Thursday, May 14th at 3:00 PM.
Chromebook Return and Pick Up School Supplies - May 18-27th from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM in the front foyer area. We will do returns/pick ups by last name to help spread out groups. **Please note that I am going to deliver everything personally (following social distancing) - I want a chance to say goodbye to the kids and give them a going away gift :) - the rest is listed for your information if you have other children.
Talent Show Video - Friday, May 22nd available via Youtube link sent out Friday by 12:00. See videos of you and your friends sharing their talents. Send videos without any names to tproctor@alpinedistrict.org by Monday, May 18th at 3:00 PM.
Drive by Parade - Friday, May 29th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Drive or walk by our school to wave at your teachers and our faculty. We will also have a picture area where you can pose and take a picture while following social distancing guidelines.
Meals- Grab and Go meals are now served on Mondays and Thursdays from 11:00-12:30 PM (This ends on May 26th and then summer schedules/locations start).
Tribute to Mrs. Collard - Mrs. Collard is retiring this year and we’d like to create a tribute video. Please send any pictures and/or messages from any of your children who have had Mrs. Collard as a teacher and would like to help us recognize her to tproctor@alpinedistrict.org by Friday, May 15th.
