April 13th - 17th

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MRS. COOPER

It was so good to see so many of you at our school parade! I miss you all SO much. Seeing you all was definitely the highlight of my week. Some sad news: I will not be returning to Forbes next year. My husband was given a job offer in Arizona, and we will be moving down there before the start of next school year. This was an incredibly difficult decision and I have tears in my eyes while writing this, as I love teaching at Forbes so much - working with your sweet kids everyday brings me so much joy and fulfillment. It's hard to express how I feel in writing, but all of you had made a lasting impact on me. Thank you for trusting me teach your children. Teaching is so much more to me than a job - I love the connections and relationships that I have formed with the kids, I love how we learn together, I love teaming up with the learning community to give the best learning environment possible, I love helping kids see and reach their potential, I love that together we accomplish hard things, and most of all, I love just playing and talking with the kids. Even though I will be in Arizona, I would love to stay in contact. I will also be up next year to say hi to the kids. Thank you for making my last year at Forbes such an incredible year and for all of the incredible support you have given me. I hope this year for your child has been memorable, meaningful, and a positive experience. I love you all.

Love, Mrs. Cooper

  • Monday April 6th - Friday April 10th: SPRING BREAK
        • Please note that Monday April 6th is OFF (it is no longer a make-up Snow Day)
  • On Google Classroom, all assignments for the week will be under Week 4 - April 13th - 17th. There will be a weekly checklist to help you and your students to keep track of assignments for each day.
        • We are also adding a Class Check-In. This will help us know who is getting on Google Classroom everyday, as well as help us see how our student's our doing! Students can access this here or on Google Classroom. They need to fill it out daily (Monday - Friday).
  • We know this is a stressful time for many of you and your kids. We added some "Mindful Minutes" on Google Classroom. These are 1 minute "exercises" to help experience mindfulness. I, myself, love to use them and they help me refocus!
  • I love getting to interact with students on Google Meet! Our session times can be found on Google Classroom. Please help students get on Google Meet on time and make sure they have paper and pencil. After the sessions, students are welcome to stay on and chat with their friends :)
  • Mrs. Chavez's Library Blog is listed under Helpful Links. Please be sure to check it out - she has put all sorts of fun things on there! She also has a link "What are you reading?" where students can write a virtual post-it of the book they are reading right now. Click here to be redirected to our Helpful Links page.

WHAT WE'RE LEARNING THIS WEEK

Next week's schedule can be found on Google Classroom Monday, April 13th!

Literacy: Students are learning how compare and contrast two main ideas of multiple texts, primarily informational.

Math: We are going to be starting our geometry unit! Students will be able to classify shapes and find the area, perimeter, and volume of prisms.

Social Studies: We are continuing our Westward Expansion unit! We have been focusing on Lewis and Clark and the Louisiana Purchase, as well as treaties with Native Americans. This week we will be making a "scrapbook" via Google Slides after Spring Break to show what they've learned.

Thanks again for all you are doing to help! Stay safe and healthy this Spring Break!

Love, Mrs. Cooper
