The Winter Aconites are still the winners in the Flower contest of the month! How many Bees can you see in this picture? You KNOW they totally voted for the Aconites!
You know a flower has been almost-well-named if you go back and forth between agreeing with the name. For instance, when you look at the picture of the Winter Aconite and decide, all right, I think it should be named Spring Aconite. No, Winter is ok. No, I want Spring. Don't worry, I have been going back and forth for a few weeks now as to whether to be happy - it's Spring - or subdued - Winter is saying goodbye!
The indoor potted plants, mostly Amaryllis, are still gorgeous. If someone doesn't give me a gift of one next year, I may just go out and look for one! Thanks Cuz for this year's! If you look carefully at the bottom of this plant, you'll see it is still budded up for a bit more this Spring!
Here is the Winter Aconite just before exploding into full bloom out there! Note the white stuff all over the ground!
Here are a few of last year's Cotton Thistles. Guess why they're called that? In picture 2, you can see another kind of Thistle pushing its way into the image, but right now, the white ones predominate.
The BUGS and Beetles are on their way back too! Here is a Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci) .
