January 12? Only 3 days and we'll be halfway through with January! Doesn't that seem too quick for reality? Here is a shot from January 5. The pattern of freezing/thawing looks to me rather fractalesque, how about to you?
We've had some other times when the patterns of ice and water seemed to be making fractal-like pictures. These pictures are from March 19 and January 28, 2023.
I love all the things you can see out there. It is amazing! The relationship between science and art is so beautiful!
Here is an interesting picture of a Cecropia Moth caterpillar. You can see that the pointy blue or yellow "decorations" on the caterpillar are repeated in the shadows on the leaves. Is this a fractal picture? I'm not SURE if it matches the definition - but there is definitely a pattern that is repeated in the sense that each of the spiky decorations resembles one caterpillar! So the caterpillar is repeated as a spiky prongy decoration and then as its own shadow! Aren't you glad you aren't a spiky moth caterpillar!
The Pond seems to melt and thaw almost in front of our eyes. Here is a sequence of shots on January 11th. First, at 11:25 am. Then at 12:42 pm. Then at 2:15 pm.
Here is a random landscape feature: a two-bunny statue partially covered with snow. Then a set of Squirrel tracks running to the center of the pond to get a drink, and then out!
Well, friends, here we are on January 12! Three weeks until Phil the Groundhog comes out to tell us the news we already know! From that day on for a while, the average low temperature will be rising. So we must just keep our nerve up and do what we must in order to begin to heal our planet from the ravages of global warming! It's the only planet we have! Love, Martha
