Absence Procedures

If your son or daughter is going to be absent please telephone the school before 8:30am to notify us  on 01264 325970.  We will also require a letter confirming their absence on their return.

All follow up emails should be sent to absence@wintoncommunityacademy.org

If your child has 100% attendance then they have done brilliantly.  That can be achieved by booking appointments and visits outside of school time.  Most importantly this will give your child the best possible chance of success in exams.

On the rare occasion your child is ill please make sure you call us and follow up with a letter to confirm absence.

Children with attendance below 95% do on average find subjects more difficult.  If your child's attendance drops below 97%  your child's tutor will look on how we can support you.  If their attendance drops significantly below 95% they will end up missing between half and a whole year of education. This will have a significant impact on their life chances.

Where a child refuses school they do place their parents at risk of prosecution.  Where attendance is regularly below 95% there is again a risk to those parents where a legitimate reason is not provided.

Holidays in term time are not permitted and are subject to legal pursuance.

The Headteacher may, in exceptional circumstances grant time.  Students should collect the request form from student reception.

If you have any attendance questions please email: cthurman@wintoncommunityacademy.org
