I am a parent member of the Academy Council with a child in attendance at the school. I myself attended the school for my secondary education and as this feels like a lifetime ago, I wanted to be in touch with my child’s education and in a position to support their needs through an understanding. Its also nice to give something back at grass roots and offer support to other parents.

Deborah McCarthy is the Head of Curriculum at Lift Schools working across primary, secondary and special schools to develop curriculum excellence. Formerly a teacher of mathematics as well as a middle and senior leader, Deborah has also held roles as a school improvement advisor, literacy lead and professional development lead. She is passionate about ensuring that every child has access to first rate teaching and a broad education. In her spare time Deborah is a keen yogi and musician.

Academy Council Information
Whilst the Board of Trustees holds overall governance accountability, the day-to-day responsibilities are delegated by the Trustees through a Scheme of Delegation to the Leadership Team, regional leaders and Academy Councils.
At a local level, each school in the Trust has an Academy Council. The Academy Council’s primary role is to provide independent assurance to the Trust based on the ‘lived experience’ of pupils, staff, parents, and members of the community, as well as promote stronger relationships between the Trust, the school and its community.
