Our Drama Department is committed to fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and comprehensive curriculum that empowers every student to explore theatre through a rich blend of drama and stagecraft. We strive to provide a nurturing environment where students can build confidence, creativity, and autonomy, developing the skills and knowledge necessary to produce original content and critically engage with both professional and peer performances.
Through exposure to diverse styles, genres, and historical contexts, we aim to deepen students’ appreciation of the performing arts. By studying a broad spectrum of theatrical traditions and professional works, students will refine their performance abilities while understanding the global and cultural relevance of theatre today.
The drama curriculum is designed to encourage collaboration, communication, and teamwork, enabling students to become both skilled performers and thoughtful, compassionate individuals. With opportunities to devise original performances, study renowned play-texts by contemporary and classical playwrights, and experiment with the techniques of innovative companies such as Frantic Assembly and Mischief Theatre, we seek to inspire a lifelong passion for the dramatic arts.
All students in KS3 have one lesson of Drama per week and students choosing Drama as an option at GCSE will be able to further develop their skills and extend their theatrical knowledge by engaging with professional practitioners and attending live performances as part of the AQA course.
Students across the school from all key stages are encouraged to join our extra-curricular drama and performing arts clubs where they can choose to be performers, playwrights, dancers, directors and even part of the technical theatre crew.
