Geography

The study of Geography is about more than just memorising places on a map. It's about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exist across continents. And in the end, it's about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together.

At Winton we are ambitious for our students. We seek to engage every student with challenging enquiry questions, inspire them with real life application of classroom study and expose them to a wide range of place context and diverse opinions. As a consequence of this approach, students develop a secure knowledge and understanding of both physical and human geography as well as the interconnections between the two.

At Winton, all pupils are offered a broad and exciting curriculum which nurtures the procedural knowledge of numeracy, cartography, oracy, literacy, debating and fieldwork interwoven with substantive content from local, regional and global settings enabling students to develop a sense of place.

At Winton pupils can expect to feel welcomed and valued in their Geography classroom, to feel settled in well organised rooms and comfortable with well structured routines. Their teachers are academically ambitious and pedagogy is planned to take into account the context of all pupils as well as subject content.

We hope that pupils leave our classrooms motivated to have a positive impact on the world.
