At Unity City Academy we aim to provide all students of all abilities a curriculum that will not only enable them to succeed, but also to be in a position when they leave school, to progress toward their chosen careers path or further education.

The curriculum that we offer is divided into two key sections. The first is a compulsory 'core' of subjects which all students across the country must follow. These subjects are English Language, English Literature, Maths and Combined Science. One choice must be History or Geography. In addition to this all students will engage in core Physical Education, Religious Education and a Personal, Social, Health and Economic Program (PSHE).

In addition to the core subjects, we give all of our students the opportunity to choose three further GCSE (or GCSE equivalent) subjects from a broad and balanced suite of qualifications. In order to choose options, students need to rank the twelve option subjects from 1 to 12 (1 being the preferred option and 12 being the least).

Within Art there are three possible pathways. Students also need to rank these three options from 1 to 3 (1 being  the best option and 3 being your last subject choice). Students need to complete this even if they rated Art low.

Students can also choose subjects within the English Baccalaureate. The English Baccalaureate (Ebacc) is a collection of subjects a student can choose to study. This means students need to choose French, and either History or Geography within their top choices alongside the core subjects.

We encourage some students to consider studying the Ebacc suite of subjects if they are thinking about some higher education courses in the future as they are seen by many as more ‘academic’.
